Owasso Police arrest robbery suspect
Owasso Police have arrested a robbery suspect who attempted
to rob the Drug Warehouse Pharmacy located at 11650 East 86th St
North in Owasso this afternoon.
Owasso 911 operators received calls of the
robbery attempt at about 2:29PM and patrol officers swarmed the area. An alert
pharmacist and a concerned customer were able to get a detailed description of
the suspect, suspect vehicle and license tag on the car.
As patrol officers
canvassed the immediate area the dispatch center sent notifications to all
surrounding Law Enforcement agencies with the detailed descriptions. Within the
hour patrol officers of the Tulsa Police Dept had located the suspect and
vehicle in the City of Tulsa.
After a positive identification was made by
pharmacy staff, Owasso Police responded and arrested 31 yo Joseph William Colson
of Owasso for the robbery.
The investigation revealed that Colson passed a
letter to the pharmacy staff noting his intention to kill them if they did not
provide him specific medications. No weapons were found on Colson at the time
of arrest and it is unknown if he possessed any weapons at the time of the
robbery attempt. Colson faces a charge of Robbery in the 1st Degree
and will be transferred to the Tulsa County Jail.

Local Owasso author of Common Sense at book signing event
Tuesday, May
29, 2012 OWASSO, Okla. – In his new humorous fiction, “Common
Sense with a Side of Gravy: Thoughts on God, Country, and Family,” Owasso author
Michael Lewis introduces readers to Bufford T. Slade, the friendly neighborhood
humorist whose everyday observations about life will keep their bellies laughing
and their brains thinking.
Common Sense is
needed during times of societal, economic, and political uncertainty.
So is a smile. The Slade family, with their eccentric ways,
provides many opportunities for both comedy and insight. Correcting the liberal
and absurd with truth through humor, in “Common Sense with a Side of Gravy,”
Bufford T. Slade serves up a huge platter of common sense with a side of
deep-fried observations and poached perspectives, all smothered with opinion
gravy and a free biscuit of truth.
Readers will
forever see the world around them in a new light after reading this unique
commentary.

Oklahoma Olympics Scheduled in Owasso June 23
A group of 9 athletes called the Owasso Grads had trained all year and were prepared to take on the competition. Because of a mix up in the Special Olympics paper work they were unable to compete. Obviously, these athletes were devastated by the news. Many of them had competed in the Special Olympics since they were small children.
Brooke Kerr had been planning all year to regain her title in Bocce ball. She had been the former state champion and had gotten runner up last year. On her birthday, she received news that she would be unable to compete due to paperwork. The games began on May 10 and she was devastated.
Brooke was the Volunteer of the Year at Bailey Medical Center and had to leave work because she was so heart-broken. Brooke and her family are also members of First Christian Church of Owasso and they began praying for the kids.
Within a day of the news Bailey Medical Center and First Christian Church of Owasso had partnered together to create the Oklahoma Olympic event.
Bailey CEO Keith Mason and Dr. Joe Bob Kirk began to champion this event in the Owasso community and then began to reach out to other special needs athletes in Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Olympics will be held Saturday, June 23 from 8-11am at the Owasso High School track.
Events scheduled include:
- Bocci Ball
- Softball Throw
- Standing Long Jump
- 50 yard Dash
- 100 Yard Dash
- 440 yard Run
There is the possibility for more events based on the interest level and the ability of the track facility to host the event. Our hope is for every athlete to get to participate in at least one event.
