The Owasso Rams Take On The Broken Arrow Tigers Friday August 31st in The First Annual Crosstown Showdown Presented by Bailey Medical Center

The first annual Crosstown Showdown is just a few days away, but the event has been years in the making. Two years ago Owasso Head Football Coach, Bill Patterson decided is was time to up the ante on the football field by creating a higher level of competition for his players. Keith Mason, Bailey Medical Center CEO, shared the desire to build a deeper sense of tradition in what is already a great sports community.

In the spring of last year, Mr. Mason approached Owasso Athletic Director, Danny Hightower, about his desire to create a stronger sense of community and competition by involving two teams with a rich history in an annual gridiron event. The obvious choice for the rivalry was the Owasso Rams and crosstown football rivals,  the Broken Arrow Tigers. After much planning and preparation, a "Name the Game" contest was held by Bailey Medical Center and with that... the "Crosstown Showdown" was born.

With the name in place and teams chosen, there had to be more than just bragging rights on the line. Bailey Medical Center CEO, Keith Mason explained, "Football is a win or lose game with no trophy when the players walk off the field. We wanted to give the athletes something to put their hands on."

Owasso Head Coach, Bill Patterson agreed, "We appreciate Bailey Medical Center stepping up and offering to provide this to our athletes. The fist game of the year will provide a high level of competition between two teams with a lot of mutual respect and we hope to keep the Bailey Cup here in Owasso."

Broken Arrow Head Football Coach, Steve Spavital, echoed Coach Patterson's sentiments saying, "We schedule the best opponents in Oklahoma and we have certainly done that with Owasso. The Rams are well coached and high class. The pressure is there when playing a tremendous opponent like the Rams. I believe two very good football teams will make for a good battle."

Both coaches are now charged with preparing their teams for battle as the First Annual Crosstown Showdown kicks of this Friday, August 31st at Owasso.  The Owasso Rams and Broken Arrow Tigers will take the field at 7:30pm to decide who will take home the Bailey Cup.
