Highway dedication honors fallen Chelsea soldier

A section of highway in Owasso was recently dedicated to the memory of Sgt. Anthony Del Mar Paterson. The Chelsea soldier was a member of the 279th Infantry Regiment and was killed in combat August 4, 2011, in Afghanistan.
Peterson was serving in his second deployment at the time of his death. He was a member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
Sen. Rick Brinkley and Rep. David Derby this year authored Senate Bill 1320, naming U.S. Highway 169 from 76th Street North to 86th Street North the “Sergeant Anthony Del Mar Peterson Memorial Highway”. Brinkley commended Peterson for his service.
“Sgt. Peterson dedicated himself to the service of his country, and we want to ensure his sacrifice is not forgotten,” said Brinkley, R-Owasso. “He distinguished himself as a soldier, a leader and a father. He is an example of the best our state has to offer.”
Derby said the dedication would serve as an important reminder.
“We will never be able to repay Sgt. Anthony Peterson for his sacrifice on our behalf, but this memorial highway serves as a way to honor that sacrifice and help us to remember his service,” said Derby, R-Owasso. “It is a sad thing for our community to have lost such a good man.”
