Owasso Community Garden getting a jump start to the Spring planting season

The Owasso Community Garden located on the south side of the Community Center is getting a jump start to the Spring planting season.  A garden orientation is scheduled for Saturday, February 9th from 10-11am at the Owasso Community Center, 301 South Cedar.  The orientation is for all individuals or groups from the community interested in learning more about the garden and will provide the opportunity to pay for and commit to a plot for the growing season.

The Community Garden was founded in the Spring of 2011 by individuals from churches, organizations and area families with a vision to provide food for people who were food insecure.  Other goals were to create a sense of community and to teach people to grow food so that they in turn are able to teach others.

The Community Garden consists of 47 – 4 x 8 raised bed gardens including an American Disabilities Act bed.  Interested gardeners must complete a garden application and pay a $6 per year gardening fee at the garden orientation on Feb. 9th to reserve their bed.  Fee may be paid all at once or in two installments of $3.

This year’s garden schedule will include monthly educational opportunities from local gardeners and whole garden work days every other month.  Dates will be given at orientation.  The first whole garden work day is scheduled for Saturday, March 9th from 9-11am in order to revitalize and prepare the entire garden for the planting season.
